It was overwhelming. It wasnât the first time Yedley had tried to work at the bar, but his brother usually made sure he did so when there werenât too many people there. Today, though, it looked like half the town had decided to have lunch at Nateâs bar, and Yedley wasnât sure how to deal with it.
But he had to. Heâd told Pryderi and Nate he wanted to do this, even though it wasnât true. He had to do it, though. He needed to find a way to give back everything Nate and Pryderi had given him. They hadnât put conditions on him living in one of their guest rooms, but not doing anything didnât feel right. Besides, it gave Yedley a chance to stop thinking about his parents.
Heâd loved having two days, or a day and a half as it was, to focus on Justin. He wanted more time, but as soon as theyâd come back to Gillham, it was as if thoughts of his parents and what had happened with them had taken over Yedleyâs brain, and he couldnât stop thinking about it.
So here he was, behind the bar washing glasses and trying to stay away from the customers filling the bar. He wasnât good enough to be a waiter yet, and he didnât think heâd ever be. He had no idea when he wanted to do with his life, but as much as he loved Pryderi and liked Nate, he wasnât sure working at the bar was something he wanted to do long term. As it was, though, it was a way to distract himself.
Or at least, it should be, but not having to deal with the customers meant that Yedley had more than enough time to think about his parents. Washing glasses wasnât as distracting as heâd hoped it would be.
Yedley sighed. Heâd known how things would go. Heâd known his parents wouldnât accept him and that theyâd kick him out just like theyâd done with Pryderi. He hadnât hoped for anything different.
So why was he so distraught over this? He shouldnât be. Heâd expected it. But it still hurt, much more than what heâd been through when heâd been kidnapped. The only way to make it stop was to give himself time, but Yedley felt like he didnât have any. He wanted to start living. He wanted to leave his past behind and focus on his future with Justin. They were bonded, yet they barely talked to each other, and Yedley knew it was his fault. Justin was an angel, giving him time and space, but Yedley didnât want time and space. He wanted Justin, and the only reason he didnât have him was himself.
Yet for some reason, he couldnât bring himself to contact Justin. They saw each other regularly. Justin came to the bar almost every day, and they talked, but never about what they were doing as a couple. Yedley wasnât even sure they were a couple. Theyâd bonded, and
